The following is pure conjecture. We simply note the following:
- An incredible number of mentions involving the Councillor Code of Conduct in the Records of Assembly
- An in camera item about more ‘legal advice’ in relation to the Code of Conduct
What does all this mean? We can only surmise that some councillor, and our bet is Lobo, has fallen foul of the existing clique and more ratepayer funds are being spent on legal eagles to ramp up their power base as well as shutting up any dissenters. All this certainly makes a mockery of Newton’s nomenclature of council being a cosy ‘club’. It has always been a ‘club’ divided and nothing has changed.

If you deliberately set out to create a culture of secrecy then this is the result. I thought that we lived in a democracy where opposing views could be heard and evaluated on their merits. Not in Glen Eira is the answer.
I am thoroughly sick of so much money being diverted into lawyers pockets instead of benefiting the community. I can’t find one single resolution anywhere that authorises this spending nor who makes the decision. Another example in my view of the appalling state of affairs that continues to exist in this council. I pay my ever increasing rates and expect that this be used wisely and not to silence anyone who doesn’t happen to agree with the status quo and certainly not to engage in what looks like a personal vendetta against a former councillor. If the majority of these councillors can’t see this then they don’t belong in council as my representative.

The code is a piece of crap used by the unscrupulous to hide their sins and get away with blue murder. Melbourne city council and Manningham had councillors calling each other bullies in public and in the media and no lawyers were summoned. In this council the bullies are rampant.

Remember last weeks front page of the Leader – all charges dropped against Penhalluriack (as were the bullying charges) after god knows how much in legal expenses..
It’s all about self interest and self preservation and f*ck fiscal responsibility.

I guess Lobo’s Right of Reply on Terrorism is in the process of being gagged by the people with the most to lose.

Unfortunately most people in this area base their vote purely on a connection to a surname and don’t realise what really goes on in city hall.

I don’t have much time for Lobo but that doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t be allowed to speak his mind. I can then make up my mind if he’s talking guff or has got something worthwhile to contribute. Pilling’s got to make sure that he gets his say and doesn’t do a Hyams or Esakoff by not letting him talk. If mps can call each other every name under the sun and get away with it then the same should be allowed in council. Tee called Guy a bully last week and that name can be applied to plenty of people inside the Glen Eira castle. No bit of paper should stop someone from spilling the beans and telling everyone what’s going on.
